It’s an 80 thousand ton per year MTBE project, the requirement of energy consumption was very strict. According to the process characteristics, ZEHUA conducted the process simulation and column internals design work, high performance ADV® floating tray technology was applied to catalytic distillation column and methanol distillation column, high performance extraction tray patented technology was applied to raffinate washing column.

The plant started up successfully in 2014 and operated stably, each index reached or exceeded the design requirement.
(1) The actual reflux ratio was obviously less than the one designed in catalytic distillation column and methanol distillation column, it indicated that the tray efficiency was superior to the requirement of process package;
(2) The methanol content was below 50ppm after washing in raffinate washing column with a small amount of circulation water consumption. Because of decreasing the load in methanol distillation column, the steam consumption and the power consumption were reduced.
